Lithuanian tenor Kristian Benedikt has established himself as one of the world’s most exciting dramatic tenors. Possessing a strong, commanding voice, Kristian has received great acclaim for his portrayal of Verdi’s Otello – a role he has performed over a 100 times.

Lithuanian tenor Kristian Benedikt has established himself as one of the world's most exciting dramatic tenors.

His international breakthrough came in 2002 when he recorded Ponchielli’s La Gioconda with Marcello Viotti, Plácido Domingo and the Munich Rundfunk Orchestra.

He has received critical acclaim for his portrayal of Verdi‘s Otello – a role he has performed over a 100 times at venues such as Wiener Staatsoper; Bayerische Staatsoper; Palacio de Bellas Artes; Mariinski Theatre; Ekaterinenburg Opera House; Teatro Municipal de Santiago; Latvian National Opera; Pacific Opera Victoria, Opéra de Montréal and Savonlinna Opera Festival. Other repertory includes Don José in Carmen; Cavaradossi in Tosca; Samson in Samson et Dalila; Calaf in Turandot; Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly; Eléazar in La Juive;  Manrico in Il trovatore; Dick Johnson in La fanciulla del West;  Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor and the title roles of Andrea Chénier; Ernani; Rienzi; Lohengrin and Les Contes d’Hoffmann.

Recent engagements includes his house début at Macedonian National Opera as Calaf in Turandot; Samson in Samson et Dalila at Teatro Regio Torino; Herman in The Queen of Spades at Hungarian National Opera and Luzern Festival; Siegmund in Die Walküre at Wedernikow Odense; Otello at Savonlinna Festival; Cavaradossi in a semi-staged concert performance of Tosca at the Llangollen International Musical Festival with the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera and a Gala Concert at the Jurmala Festival.

In 2017/18 he will perfom Canio in Pagliacci and Samson in Samson and Dalila with Vilnius City Opera; Don Jose in Carmen with Lithuanian National Opera; Otello with Teatro Filharmonico di Verona; Radames in Aida with Estonian National Opera; Siegmund in Die Walküre at Den Fynske Opera and Eléazar in La Juive at Konstance.

In 2018/19, he will perform Samson in Samson et Dalila at the Metropolitan Opera, New York.

His concert repertory includes Verdi’s Requiem, Das Lied von der Erde and The Bells. He has performed with conductors such as Maurizio Barbacini, Paolo Carignani, Riccardo Chailly, Asher Fisch, Valery Gergiev, Renato Palumbo, Alexander Vedernikov and Marcello Viotti.
