Concerts / Recitals

Opera Gala, Notting Hill Mayfest
Remotegoat
When mezzo-soprano Sioned Gwen Davies walked onto the stage, however, you instantly knew you could breathe easily, and just let yourself enjoy the show. From the very first few bars, Ms Davies projects the grace of effortless confidence. There is no subtle pleading for your approval there, but the understated yet unwavering trust that Music is on her side. Her stage presence is remarkably grounded for one so young, her technique is flawless and her crisp diction leaves no doubt that she means every word of her song. Her rendition of 'Mon cœur s'ouvre à ta voix', from Saint-Saëns's 'Samson et Dalila', sung in a voice rich and warm like vintage port, carried truth with it.
British Youth Opera 25th Anniversary Gala at Cadogan Hall, London
British Theatre Guide
An exciting mezzo soprano to watch is Sioned Gwen Davies. This mid-twenties mezzo soprano performed with BYO just last year but she is already zooming up the ranks. She is sumptuous vocally, her tone creamy and full which is on a par with the stars from far more experienced generations onstage in this gala.
