Stuart Burrows Award Winner

Congratulations to Welsh tenor Elgan Llŷr Thomas who won the coveted Stuart Burrows International Voice Award in Carmarthen on July 4th. He was also awarded a separate Audience Prize for his winning performance which featured Tom Rakewell’s aria ‘Here I Stand’ from Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress, Schubert’s lied ‘Nacht und Träume’, Nemorino’s aria ‘Una Furtiva Lagrima’ from Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore and R.S. Hughes’s beautiful and rousing Welsh song, Arafa Don.


In August Elgan will travel to Nice in the South of France for the Les Azuriales Young Artists Masterclass & Competition and he will then go on to perform the role of Almaviva in The Barber of Seville  at the Mananan International Festival of Music and the Arts on the Isle of Man in September. He will then returning to London to commence his final year on the Guildhall School of Music and Drama’s prestigious Opera Course.
